"The Principle of the Path" by Andy Stanley

Here is my review of Andy Stanley's "The Principle of the Path - How to get from where you are to where you want to be". This review is part of the Thomas Nelson Book Review Blogger Program.
“How in the world did I get here?” The answer is quite simple. This is where your path has led you. Whether you like it or not, there is an unavoidable principle at work in your life. This principle can’t be broken. Andy Stanley calls it the “Principle of the Path”. Direction, not intention, determines destination. As obvious as that may sound it is, for some reason, easy to live as though it wasn’t the case. What can we do with such a principle if we can’t avoid it? We must learn to leverage it. Use it to our advantage. Andy wants to awaken us to the principle and help set us up so we can chose paths that will eventually tell the story we intend and desire for our lives.
Reading Andy Stanley is just as interesting and engaging as listening to one of his talks. This is not a self help or a 1-2-3 step to success kind of book. In fact, taking the principle of the path seriously will seem to make life…harder - at first. This is the first book I’ve read by Andy Stanley. His down to earth communication style grabs you from beginning to end. I am one of those people who needs to be reminded daily of the “Principle of the Path”. One of my favorite chapters is chapter 3 – The Great Disconnect. Every step is a step along a path that leads somewhere. No step is isolated and disconnected no matter how trivial or “one night” it may seem. Reading the book I could easily point out how I often hope my good intentions will land me in the right spot. Not so! I knew that of course. Or did I?
This book is a must read. The sooner the better. I plan on using it as reading material with the young men I mentor.
